Shi Jishi,he passed the imperial examination and became a Jinshi,and later served as the Magistrate of Jiex-iu and Yuci counties in Shanxi in succession.After that,he was promoted to the position of the Chief of the Military Depart-ment and the Inspector of Yunnan and ordered by the emperor to inspect Hunan and Hubei provinces.His highest official po-sition was the Junior Minister of Guanglu.Later,due to his straightforwardness and courage to remonstrate with the emper-or,he was dismissed from his position.After returning to his hometown,Shi Jishi publicly lectured,verified and revised eti-quette and music,established public granaries,and advocated for the construction of river embankments,for which the en-tire village was grateful to him.Shi Jishi was acquainted with other great scholars of the Guanzhong Confucianism,such as Feng Congwu from Chang'an and Zhang Shundian from Fengxiang.They were all masters of the Donglin Party in the north-west region.During his official career,straightforward and upright,Shi Jishi was concerned with the education and material well-being of the people,fearless of more powerful officials;after his retirement,he educated the people in his hometown.As a matter of fact,whether his character or his works,all fully conform to the characteristics of scholars of the Guanzhong Confucianism,and therefore We should consider Shi jishi as a defender of the Guanzhong Confucianism in the late Ming Dy-nasty.
