Pei Yin's citation of He Yan's annotations in Shiji Jijie(a book with collected explanations of Historical Re-cords)includes a total of 44 entries, accounting for one-sixth of the annotations cited from the Lunyu Jiijie(a book with col-lected explanations of the Analects). This substantial quantity and rich content make it highly valuable for research.Analyzing the methods of citation,it can be seen that Shiji Jijie cites He Yan's annotations in three ways:verbatim recording,selec-tive citation, and paraphrased citation. It is also evident that Pei Yin's citations of He Yan often include modal particles, which can better preserve the original appearance of the Lunyu Jijie.By analyzing the content of He Yan's annotations,it becomes clear that Pei Yin focuses on citing He Yan's subjective annotations. This focus indicates that Pei Yin values not on-ly the understanding of historical events("achieving matters")but also the understanding of principles("clarifying rea-sons"),suggesting that one cannot simply view Shiji Jijie from the perspective of historical annotation alone.
