Image is the important part of a literary work,it is one of the ways for readers to understand the attitude and emotion of the writer.Behind the Painting and The Scarlet Letter are the representative works of Siburapha and Hawthorne.These two novels successfully portray Keerati and Hester,who are poisoned by feudal ethics and Puritan ideology,thus losing their love and happiness.Through analysis the experiences between Keerati and Hester,the two novels reveal the influence of the social environment,family background and backward traditional moral concepts on female tragedies.It reflects the harsh social conditions and the predicament of women's status at that time from a small perspective,inspiring readers to think about how women should look at themselves and recognize their own values,and recognize the importance of women's spiritual independence.
