The Frontier Granting Policy of the Tang Dynasty from the Perspective of Imperial Power Politics
The frontier of the Tang Dynasty cannot be understood by the method of dividing the boundaries of modern countries. It should be placed in the context of the feudal dynasty and the dominant role of the ruling system with the imperial power as the core should be clarified in order to restore the truth of ancient history, avoid the misreading of historical information from the economic, national relations and other aspects and form a correct understanding of the origins of ancient Chinese National Community. The border of the Tang Dynasty had three dimensions of meaning:geographical and military border, political border and cultural border. The border conferment includes two aspects:the border conferment and the official conferment, which is the typical embodiment of the effect of the border ideology on the political system. It could be seen that the domination of imperial power over the world is the key political background for the implementation of the frontier conferment from the discussion of the connotation and the scope of application of"the Son of Heaven"and"the Emperor".In the Tang Dynasty, the frontier granting policy had internal laws, such as hierarchical division, internal and external distinction, etc. However,no matter how varied the border areas were and how flexible the awarding was, maintaining imperial power was the fundamental mission and imperial politics was the fundamental axis for the smooth operation of the integration process of the Chinese nation in the ancient history system.
