An Interpretation of the Phenomenon of Using Characters with the Same or Similar Pronunciation to Replace the Original Character in the Contract Documents of Honghe,Yunnan in the Qing Dynasty
The fifth volume of the Compilation and Collection of Contract Documents in Yunnan Museum, edited by Wu Xiaoliang and Xu Zhengyun, contains 153 contract documents in Honghe Area in the Qing Dynasty, which are of great value to the study of the social history of Honghe area in Qing Dynasty. However, due to the low cultural level of the contract writers at that time, there were many borrowed characters in terms of the same pronunciation, which hindered the correct interpretation of the contract content.Based on the theory of phonology, this paper uses a variety of collating methods to verify the 26 borrowed characters in the fifth volume of the Qing Dynasty's Honghe contract documents, points out their correct characters, and confirms them with the pronunciation of modern Honghe dialect, which provides a certain reference for the further sorting and research of Yunnan contract documents.
