Research Progress in Synthesis of Prodigiosin by Microbial Fermentation
Prodigiosin is a natural red tripyrrole pigment,mainly derived from the secondary metabolic process of mi-croorganisms.It has antibacterial and anti-tumor functions,and has broad application prospects in medicine,environ-ment,dyes and other fields.With the continuous development of synthetic biology technology,the synthesis of prodi-giosin by microbial fermentation is one of the effective ways to achieve its industrial production.At present,the micro-organisms that produce prodigiosin are mainly Serratia macescernse.Therefore,this paper systematically introduces the structural properties and application potential of prodigiosin,focuses on the synthesis pathway of prodigiosin in Serratia marcescens,and summarizes the latest progress in improving prodigiosin biosynthesis through breeding of high-yielding strains,optimizing fermentation processes,and regulating transcription factors.Moreover,we also analyzes the effi-ciency of different extraction and purification processes,and looks forward to the highly efficient synthesis of prodigio-sin in the future,in order to further improve the industrial production efficiency.
