Effects of Simulated Weightlessness on Bio-characteristics of Escherichia coli
The changes of biological characteristics of Escherichia coli after 14 days of subculture under simulated weightlessness conditions were studied. The growth rate, morphology, biochemical metabolism,biofilm,environmen-tal pressure tolerance and drug resistance of Escherichia coli were measured using the Gravite gravity control system under simulated weightlessness conditions for continuous subculture for 14 days. The effects of simulated weightless-ness on the biological characteristics of E.coli were evaluated. The results showed that simulated weightlessness could increase the growth rate of E.coli, reduce its cubage, change its biochemical metabolism, and increase its tolerance to environmental pressure and drug resistance. However, under corresponding conditions the changes of biomembrance has no statistic significance. To conclude, simulated weightlessness can cause changes in correlatively biological char-acteristics of E.coli.
