Advances in Preparation,Separation and Characterization of Xanthan Gum Oligosaccharide
Xanthan gum oligosaccharide(XGOS)is a type of low molecular weight polymer composed of 2-20 mono-saccharides,which are covalently linked through glycosidic bonds. In comparison to xanthan,XGOS,which has low viscosity, good water solubility, high chemical stability, and good bioavailability, has become a research hotspot in the field of oligosaccharide due to its many biological activities such as antitumor, antioxidant, antibacterial, inducing plant resistance and promoting plant growth. The activity of xanthan gum oligosaccharides is closely related to their structural characteristics. In this paper, the preparation, separation, and purification of xanthan gum oligosaccharides and their structural characterization are reviewed, with emphasis on chromatographic separation techniques in different modes and structural characterization methods by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The principles and application scope of the various methods are summarized, and their superiority and limitations are ana-lyzed.The information presented here is intended to serve as a useful reference for future research and practical appli-cations of xanthan gum oligosaccharides.
