Lecture Practices of Southern Song Literati and Their Explorations:A Case Study of Lu Jiuyuan
Lecture practices among literati gradually evolved into a distinct profession during the Southern Song dynasty.Among various types of lectures,the richness of Lu Jiuyuan's lectures makes it a noteworthy case for in-depth analysis.Lu Jiuyuan,with a preference for lecturing over writing,made a deliberate choice against the backdrop of the dominant presence of Zhu Xi's Neo-Confucianism,revealing significance beyond cognitive and temperamental aspects.Lu Jiuyuan's lectures represent an exploration of how the new form of knowledge,Confucianism,should be presented,especially in the context of recognizing the superiority of the contemporary Neo-Confucianism over previous traditions.Characterized by a unique scale,atmosphere,and distinctive teaching methods,his lectures embody a sense of exploration,highlighting the distinctive features and challenges of lecture practices among Southern Song literati.
