This paper investigates the indirect phonetic notations in Zhouyi Yinyi,Jingdian Shiwen(《經典釋文·周易音義》).Using Shisanjing Zhushu(《十三經注疏》),Tongzhitang(《通志堂》)and Song-Yuan Dixiu(《宋元遞修》)such three editions,nearly fifty problems with indirect phonetic notations are founded.For the inconsistencies between the three editions,this paper identifies the differences and gives advice on proofreading;for the inappropriate use of terminology,this paper identifies the errors based on the general rules of indirect phonetic notation,and also identifies some of the confusing terms.In conjunction with related research in the field of relationship between sound and meaning,and supported by excavated documents,this paper also illustrates the value of indirect phonetic notations on the textual criticism of the classics.The study of indirect phonetic notations is also useful for understanding the meaning of the classics.
