This paper reports on an empirical study on the washback effects of the English Listening and Speaking Test for Senior High School Entrance Examination in Mianyang.The objects of the study include 5 groups,while the methods of questionnaire survey,interview and classroom observation are employed.The Test has generated positive washback effects in terms of cognition,attitudes and school curriculum,with both positive and negative washback effects on teaching materials,content and activities.In addition,there are notable differences in the washback effects among teachers,students,teaching research focuses,and school curriculum settings.This paper proposes improvement paths in aspects of teaching,teaching research,and student cultivation,with the aim of facilitating regional English teaching reform,providing valuable references and insights for the promotion of the English Listening and Speaking Test for Senior High School Entrance Examination across the province and even nationwide.
