An Investigation of Liang Youyu's Resignation and Dates of Birth and Death
There are mainly three versions of Liang Youyu's resignation in his biographical materials,namely,illness,missing his mother and the unkindness of Yan Song and his son toward him.Through Liang Youyu and his friends'poetry,and in light of historical data and logical reasoning,it can be speculated that Liang Youyu's resignation was related to the terror of the officialdom,nostalgia for his homeland,andhis inner melancholy.Therefore,though he excused himself from officialdom on the pretext of illness,the actual reason washis boredom with official life and self-redemption.On the basis of Chen Shengzheng's research,the present author conducted anadditional investigation of Liang Youyu's year of death,and concluded that Liang Youyu died on 3 November,the thirty-third year of the Jiajing reign period(according to the lunar calendar).
