Wang Yangming and Zhan Ganquan's Association and Debates and Their Different Understandings of the"Mind"
Although Wang Yangming and Zhan Ganquan belonged to the same camp of the study of the mind, they had different under-standings of"mind",which were mainly reflected in three aspects:First,Wang maintained that the"mind"is the unity of"no good and no evil"and"supreme good",while Zhan believed that the"mind"can only be pure"supreme good";Second, both of them admit the"supreme goodness"of the"original mind",but Wang maintained that the"supreme goodness"comes from the"original mind"itself, while Zhan maintained that it comes from the"heavenly principle"of the"supreme goodness".Third,Zhan emphasized that the"mind"is a"big mind"that"embodies all things without leaving anything",and there is no difference between"mind"and"things",while Wang emphasized the dominant role of the"mind"in the process of induction.Their differences in these three aspects lead to their different thinking trends regarding the relationship between Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism and the investigation of things.
