Research on Chen Xianzhang's Previously Unknown Disciples
In the early Ming Dynasty, the Baisha School of Confucianism with Chen Xianzhang as its patriarch rose in Jiangmen,Guangdong Province, and spread throughout the country, attracting numerous followers from all over the country. As for the origin, distribution and number of disciples of the Baisha School, previous researchers have made several kinds of records, but there are still some omissions.Referring to previous research results and various historical documents such as local chronicles, collections of essays, biographies, and epitaphs,15 previously unknown disciples of Chen Xianzhang were found, including 5 from Guangdong Province and 10 from outside the province. The discovery of these disciples, especially those from outside of Guangdong Province, can help to reveal the geographical distribution and social influence of the Baisha School of Thought, and show its scale and the trajectory of its inheritance.
