A Study on Gender Discourse Reconstruction and Image Reshaping in the English Translation of Jia Pingwa's Novel Ji Hua
Jia Pingwa's novel Ji Hua focuses on the tragedy of the abducted heroine Butterfly and her complicated life experience.Translated by British female translator Nicky Harman,the novel Broken Wings was published in 2019.Taking feminist stylistics as the theoretical framework,the research examines the changes in gender discourse between the original and its translation on vocabulary,syntax,and point of view respectively,exploring the impact of the translator's ideologies and values on the translation.The research finds that,as a female translator,Harman shows great sympathy for the abducted heroine.The translation has highlighted the heroine's subtle emotional changes,strengthening female awareness as an individual,restructuring gender discourse and reshaping the image of different characters.
