Discourse Stance Analysis of Political Speeches under the Framework of Putative Readers:A Case Study of Remarks by President Biden on the End of the War in Afghanistan
From the perspective of relative writer-reader relationship,this study uses the analytical framework of Putative Reader to conduct a comprehensive analysis of Biden's Remarks on the End of the War in Afghanistan,which includes both the macro-level analysis of the societal and cultural background and the micro-level analysis of the dialogistic mechanism of the speech.It is found that,configurations of different types of putative readers help establish certain connections between the dialogistic features,persuasive strategies and stancetaking of the speech,and facilitate the realization of communicative purpose of reinforcing solidarity,shifting responsibilities,mitigating disputes,rebuilding consensus,etc.The analysis of counter terrorism speeches under the Putative Reader framework provides a new research perspective for analyzing the voice manipulation and stancetaking strategies of political speeches,and also brings positive significance to a comprehensive understanding of the ideology of the official U.S.counter-terrorism discourse.
