Intertextuality and Repetition:A Study on the Narration in The Changeling
Based on the suicide of the famous director ltami Juzo,The Changeling is a story in which the protagonist,Kogito Choko, explores the reasons for the suicide of his wife's brother,Goro, through a conversation with the"Tiangui"device that was left behind after Goro's suicide and faces the threat of violence to people's lives in Japan. The work based on the dialogue between Kogito and the"Tiangui"is an intertextuality of fictional violence and other literary works, reflecting the crisis of democracy faced by the Japanese. The author borrows the framework of Western folklore, presenting the social reality in metaphors, reflecting the Japanese national consciousness, and embodying Kenzaburo Oe's deep understanding of the relationship among myth, nation and history in his later years.Through the repetition and deconstruction of the memories of Kogito by Chikashi,it makes Kogito reshape his self-awareness and reflect on history.Through the reconstruction of characters'memories and the expectation of rebirth,Kenzaburo Oe provides a path for the Japanese who had participated in the invasive war toward foreign countries to redeem their souls.
