A Pragmatic Analysis of Interactional Explanation in Intercultural Interactions
Interactional explanation,the response to a perceived appeal for information in interaction,is a prevalent discursive phenomenon in intercultural interactions.The present study examines the narration and evaluation of the interactional explanations to explore linguacultural influence on intercultural interactions.The analysis is based on the data collected by ex post facto inter-views with Chinese living in Hungary.The results show that Hungarian and Chinese interactants employ interactional explanation to realize similar pragmatic functions through particular speech acts.The contexts of intercultural interaction significantly influence the pragmatic functions achieved by interactional explanations.Evaluations of interactional explanation reveal salient in-teractional conventions and norms in interactions.These salient conventions and norms reflect the specific linguacultural impact on intercultural encounters.The research provides a pragmatic study of interactional explanations in intercultural interactions,offering a novel research perspec-tive for in-depth analysis of various forms of intercultural interactions.
