Time,Space, and Relation:Three Dimensions of Concept Translation History
As an emerging research field, the study of concept translation history reflects the theoreti-cal and methodological turn in translation history. It focuses on concept translation events in his-tory as a means of revealing the idea-generating,integrating,and transforming functions of trans-lation.Because of translation concepts are able to move through time and space, producing cer-tain ideological impacts, which indicates that the study of concept translation history needs to ful-fill the requirements in three dimensions:time, space and relation. The time dimension requires us to pay attention to the historical context behind the concept translation events, showcasing the historical changes in concept translation. The space dimension requires us to develop a global historical perspective, and to study in decentration the flow of translated concepts across do-mains.The relation dimension requires us to pay attention not only to the development process of concept translation itself, but also to the interaction between concept translation and social ideas. The three dimensions are not separate, and on the contrary, their integration is typical of the study of concept translation history.
