Ethical Considerations in Language Assessment Empowered by Intelligent Technologies,
The emergence of large language models and generative artificial intelligence technologies has had a profound impact on foreign language education,presenting both opportunities and ethi-cal challenges in teaching and assessment.This article examines the application of intelligent technologies in language assessment,aiming to raise awareness within the language assessment community about relevant ethical issues.First,the article reviews current practices in language assessment empowered by intelligent technologies and proposes an analytical framework for evaluating the ethical risks associated with the application of these technologies.Using the framework,the article then delves into ethical considerations,including ideological and value orientation,assessment fairness and justice,assessment transparency and interpretability of scores,data and information security,as well as the social and educational impacts.Finally,the article explores human-centered artificial intelligence ethics for language assessment,offering practical recommendations for the responsible application of intelligent technologies and advo-cating for a human-in-the-loop approach to intelligent assessment practices.
