Knowledge Emotions of Surprise and Interest in Academic Writing:A FrameNet-Based Study
This research examines the construction paths of the two knowledge emotions,"surprise"and"interest",in academic discourse based on FrameNet.Specifically,by analysing semantic frames and core frame elements, this research explores the representation of different frame elements and thereby revealing the distribution features of surprise and interest. The results indicate that both surprise-marked expressions and interest-marked expressions identify seven semantic frames in linguistics.Additionally, within the semantic frames, the three types of trigger, phenomenon, attribute and relationship, tend to evoke"surprise"and"interest",and explanation, resolution and experiencer are unstated in most cases. In terms of degree, surprise markers prefer mitigated degree while interest markers prefer boosted degree.By investigating the frame paths of knowledge emotions, this study reveals the process of academic knowledge construction and the legitimization of disciplinary consensus, offering a new perspective for the disciplinary discourse practices.
