On the Historical Evolution and Internal Logic of Taoist Qi(气)Concept Before the Wei and Jin Dynasties
Qi(气)is an important concept in Taoist thought and has significant implications in the construction of Taoist cosmology,life philosophy,and political philosophy.Before the Wei and Jin dynasties,with the continuous shift of the purport and focus of Taoist philosophical thought,the connotation of Qi also underwent a development process from material Qi to the dual meaning of material and spiritual Qi,and then to the composite Qi of material,spiritual function,and perception(information).At the same time,as the core of Taoist thought and closely related to Qi,Dao also underwent a series of deviations in its connotation in this process.Therefore,analyzing and sorting out the evolution process of the Taoist concept of Qi before the Wei and Jin dynasties has enlightening significance for systematically understanding the development history of Taoism before the Wei and Jin dynasties and reinterpreting Taoist theory.
