As a new driving force for socio-economic development, artificial intelligence(AI)is making a profound impact on various industries. In the education sector,AI enhances educational efficiency and optimizes the allocation of resources through automation and intelligent technologies. However, its effect on the number of educational professionals has garnered widespread attention.Based on data from Chinese prefecture-level cities from 2000 to 2021 and using Stata 17 to apply a panel fixed-effects model, this study finds that AI significantly increases the number of educational professionals in urban areas, whereas the internet development level negatively moderates this effect. To promote the balanced development of educational resources and achieve high-quality education,it is necessary to strengthen the integration of AI and education, enhance teachers'digital skills, and formulate region-specific policies.
