Western Medicine into Wenzhou:The Paradigm of Endemicity in Global Modern Medicine
Since the southern migration in the Song Dynasty,Yongjia's medicine became gradually developed,but entered a low point in the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Before and after the Opium War,Western missionaries,under the shelter of unequal treaties and the demand of local opium smokers for medical treatment,opened the way to medicine,trained students and preached religions.The promotion of modern Western medicine in Wenzhou had impacted and influenced the traditional Chinese medical treatment,forcing Wenzhou medicine to seek the transformation of modern medicine.In the early 20th century,under the new trend of the Xinhai Revolution,there appeared a Chinese-run Western medical hospital appears in Wenzhou,and formed a three-pronged relationship with the first two religious hospitals.The entry of Western medicine into Wenzhou catered to the needs of the transformation of Wenzhou medicine in the low period of modern times,enriched the connotation of localization in the global dissemination of Western medicine,and shook up the traditional Chinese political power hierarchy by the entry of medicine into the clergy.
