Volume Contest and Emotion Production:The"Story Mode"of American-Style News Production in Russia-Ukraine Conflict
Looking at the current international communication landscape, various communication entities such as traditional media, social media, and self-media all play their own roles, shaping an unprecedentedly complex international communication landscape.Over the past few decades, the information flow in international communication has covered all areas of international society. The reason why the information flow itself can attract the attention of countries around the world is that the size of international flow, the connotation and direction of information flow have all had a real impact on the fundamental interests and international image of every national country. The Internet has ushered in a new global era for international communication,in which the communication efficiency of diverse entities has been infinitely amplified, and international communication is no longer limited to the mode and style of a single governmental entity. This study focuses on the international media and public opinion field during the Russia-Ukraine conflict, analyzing media content with narrative characteristics from the perspective of Schudson's"story mode"news theory. The study believes that the current international news and public opinion field still has the"story mode"characteristics in Schudson's theory, and it is mainly divided into six dimensions:preheating, guidance, channel, agenda, intensity, and function of the story. Therefore, news in the international public opinion field is not only an information flow carried by the media, but also to some extent,a category of historical writing and emotional confrontation between different entities. At the same time, this research provides strategic suggestions for the development of China's future international communication industry.China is constantly caught in a binary debate of values in the international communication arena, which is precisely triggered by the"information mode"news agenda. With the official mainstream media occupying the dominant position in China's international communication for a long time, the communication content biased towards the"information mode"is dominant, and its inherent seriousness forces the more affable and understandable"story mode"reporting to give way.As a result, the flesh-and-blood life of the people is less presented, which objectively hinders foreign audiences'perception of the"real China"and hinders the emotional cognition of Chinese stories by international audiences, making China's national image slightly less affable. Therefore,China's current international communication industry urgently needs to strive for the support of well-known foreign media professionals and politicians, use the influence of diplomats, institutional media,self-media,overseas Chinese, and Chinese people, strengthen external publicity cooperation, actively participate in the setting of international public opinion topics, and present a diverse and genuine Chinese voice.
