The Impact of Intellectual Property Strategy on the Competitiveness of Manufac-turing Market
Manufacturing is an important pillar industry of our country's economy and the key area to achieve high-quality development.The improvement of the competitiveness of manufacturing enterprises is not only related to the process of industrial transformation and upgrading,but also determines the process of the manufacturing industries'products transformation from the low added value to the high added value.It also affects the market and consumers'demand for high-quality,high-value products and services.The competitiveness of manufacturing is also the key force that drives the change of economy from"quantitative"to"qualitative".However,the effective deepening of division of labor and strong market competitiveness of manufacturing enterprises cannot be separated from the support of a good regional institutional environment.As an important resource for innovation and development,intellectual property rights are not only related to the core competitiveness of enterprises,but also related to the country's scientific and technological innovation and international competitiveness.Therefore,intellectual property protection can not only provide a reliable protection mechanism for enterprise technological innovation and protect their unique technology and knowledge from infringement,but also promote the commercialize transformation and realization of innovation,enable the faster promotion and application of innovation results,in order to provide protection with the enterprises'market competition.While promoting the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry based on the enterprise-oriented and market-oriented,exploring the market competitiveness of enterprises in the manufacturing industry under the background of intellectual property protection will contribute to accelerating the process of China's"manufacturing power".This article uses data from the listed manufacturing companies of China's Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share from 2009 to 2020 to calculate the market competitiveness of the companies.Then based on the quasi-experimental background of the policy of China's intellectual property demonstration city,and a triple-difference model is used to examine the relationship between intellectual property protection strategies and the market competitiveness of enterprises in the manufacturing industry.Empirical research findings show that the impact of the establishment of intellectual property demonstration cities on the competitiveness of enterprises in the manufacturing industry varies due to industry differences.The competitiveness of the high-tech industries has been further improved compared with the traditional industries,and the regression results still remain robust even after passing a series of robustness tests.Moreover,in terms of the impact of the establishment of intellectual property demonstration cities on the market competitiveness of different manufacturing companies,enterprises have different effects in terms of characteristics such as equity concentration,ownership,and scale.Further analysis shows that intellectual property demonstration city policies can promote differentiated changes in the market competitiveness of different manufacturing industries by easing financing constraints,affecting operating costs,and improving key technology innovation capabilities.Compared with previous literature,this article may have the following marginal contributions.Firstly,this article not only focuses on the impact of intellectual property protection behind innovation on the competitiveness of manufacturing companies.At the same time,it explores the relationship between the intellectual property protection system and the market competitiveness of enterprises in different manufacturing industries,enriching the relevant research on the relationship between intellectual property and high-quality development of manufacturing industries.Secondly,it analyzes the relationship between intellectual property protection and corporate market competitiveness from different manufacturing industry perspectives.Thirdly,from the perspective of intellectual property system supply,the internal mechanism of government system supply affecting the market competitiveness of enterprises in different manufacturing industries is explored.The conclusions of this article can provide useful countermeasures and inspirations for strengthening intellectual property protection,cultivating enterprises with intellectual property competitiveness,and improving the market competitiveness of China's manufacturing industry.
