Analyzing the Spatial Form of Ancient Streets from the Syntactic Perspective—A case study of Kongcheng Old Street in Anhui
Historical and cultural old streets have witnessed the urban culture and trajectories formed in the course of human production and life, and thus contain politics, economy, culture, production models and the other infor-mation of each period. As material carriers of historical memory, architectural heritage has a non-renewable and non-reproducible uniqueness.Having defined the space syntax concept and research approach and taking Kongcheng Old Street in Anhui as an example, the paper firstly reviews the status quo of the spatial form of tradi-tional old streets and the research of domestic and foreign scholars in the aspects of history and culture,architectur-al space, social economy and others.Special attention was paid to such issues as the destruction and imbalance of spatial structures in traditional villages, the reduction and disappearance of historic spaces, and the degradation of public space. The axis model is built by importing the UAV aerial photo plan into the Depthmap software.Based on the spatial syntactic theory, the spatial pattern of Kongcheng Old Street is quantitatively analyzed and calculated from the perspective of integration, intelligibility and selectivity. It is found that the degree of integration,intelligi-bility and selection of the Old Street show significant differences across different regions, thus revealing the problem of spatial accessibility and connectivity in these areas.Based on these findings, the research proposes a series of optimization strategies to aid efforts for future conservation and renewal work.
