Yangcheng Yan and the Planning and Construction of Metropolitan Circle in the Early Han Dynasty
In the reconstruction of the metropolitan circle in the early Han Dynasty,Yangcheng Yan,who held the post of Shaofu,was a very important participant and decision maker in the spatial planning of the capital city and mausoleum towns or the special maintenance of palaces,city walls and other buildings with his considerable value over Xiao He.Although Chang'an City of the Han Dynasty was planned and built on the spatial foundation of Xian-yang,the capital of the Qin Dynasty,it underwent profound changes apart from retaining the geographical basis and planning concept of capital construction,which established its special position in the history of planning and con-struction of Chinese capitals.In addition,the construction of Changling Mausoleum and Anling Mausoleum by Yangcheng Yan not only innovated and developed the unique system of setting up counties by mausoleums in ancient China,but also established the spatial development pattern of capital city-mausoleum town in the Guanzhong region of Western Han.
