Characteristics of the Newly Built"Ting"Cities in the Shaanxi-Gansu Region in the Qing Dynasty and Their Position in the Urban History
The historical process of building new"Ting"cities in the two provinces of Shaanxi and Gansu shows that the Qing Dynasty's building of cities on the periphery of the interior was the result of geographical development,while the building of cities on the frontier was a product of multi-ethnic exchanges and blending.Due to the geographical environment and the level of economic and social development,the scale of the new cities in Shaanxi and Gansu was gen-erally smaller than that of the cities in the mainland states and counties.From the perspective of large locations,the trans-portation routes and geographic patterns of political regions in the Qing Dynasty were important factors influencing the lo-cation of cities.In terms of small locations,most of the city sites faced many shortcomings due to the subjective require-ments of local governors,who focused on political and military purposes,but thanks to the deepening of regional develop-ment in the Qing Dynasty,a large number of hall city sites are still in use today.For the urban development of Qing Dynas-ty,"Ting"cities were an important part of Qing Dynasty cities,along with political stability and urban construction,the in-dustrial and commercial functions of the cities gradually became more and more prominent,and"Ting"cities were mostly located in mixed ethnic areas,where various ethnic groups gathered and The"Ting"city was located in a mixed ethnic ar-ea,where various ethnic groups gathered and exchanged,and became an important hub of ethnic integration.
