Dynamic Culture and Generative Knowledge:Reflections on Cultural Heritage Research and Knowledge Production
From the point of view of knowledge production,"culture""heritage""cultural heritage"and even"knowledge",each concept needs to be re-examined and cannot be taken for granted to be used within established intellectual and political frameworks.Common discussions essentially treat these concepts to be examined as a static, even solidifiable entity, whether it is supposedly tangible or intangible, material or immaterial, and in general have a flavor of legal usage, related to topics such as property, ownership and rights. However,if culture is not static, and knowledge is not fixed, and cultural heritage is fluid and difficult to define property rights, how else can we think, and how can we act?Perhaps the most basic reminder is that scholars do not in fact"produce"knowledge, but are merely depictions and representations of knowledge processes in the making, and are a small but important part of a multitude of people who may be contributing to the formation of a kind of Na Moo(a concept indigenous to northern Thailand).
