Population Size and Distribution of Budorcas taxicolor in Niubeiliang National Nature Reserve
A comprehensive survey was conducted to assess thepopulation size and distribution pat-terns of takin(B.taxicolor)within the Niubeiliang National Nature Reserve and its surrounding re-gions.The survey used multiple methodologies, including the transect line method,questionnaire-based interviews, infrared camera trapping,far-infrared drone thermal imaging, and video monitoring. The results indicated that a total of 71 takins were directly observed, corresponding to a distribution density of 0.43 individuals per km2.Based on encounters along transect lines and evidence such as takin tracks and other signs, the population was estimated to range from 292 to 346 individuals, with an average population size of 319.As a result, the distribution density was estimated to vary between 1.78 and 2.11 individuals per km2,with an average density of 1.94 takins per km2.
