A Meta-analysis of the Effectiveness of Microteaching in Clinical Teaching for Medical Students
Objective To systematically evaluate the effectiveness of the microteaching method in clinical teach-ing for medical students. Methods Studies on microteaching in clinical teaching formedical students published before September 2024 were retrieved. The quality of the literature was evaluated according to the Cochran evaluation criteria.RevMan 5.4 software was used for meta-analysis.Results A total of 46 studies involving 3,551 participants were included. The microteaching group outperformed the lecture-based learning group regarding basic theory scores(SMD=5.18,95%CI:3.97-6.39,P<0.000 01),clinical practice skills scores(SMD=7.26,95%CI:6.14-8.37,P<0.000 01),overall satisfaction(OR=5.65,95%CI:4.12-7.76,P<0.000 01),improved interest in learning(SMD=2.07,95%CI:1.50-2.63,P<0.000 01),team cooperation ability(SMD=1.27,95%CI:0.68-1.87,P<0.000 1),autonomous learning ability(SMD=1.10,95%CI:0.74-1.46,P<0.000 01),operational ability(SMD=1.04,95%CI:0.36-1.73,P=0.003),enlivened classroom atmosphere(SMD=0.94,95%CI:0.40-1.47,P=0.000 6),and cultivation of clinical reasoning(SMD=0.82,95%CI:0.69-0.96,P<0.000 01).Conclusion The microteaching method can improve students'scores in basic theory and clinical practice skills, and improve their satisfaction.Meanwhile,it also can enhance their interest in learning, teamwork ability, independent learning ability and operational ability, cultivate their clinical reasoning, and enliven classroom atmosphere.
