Study on the analgesic and arresting bleeding effects of Begonia cavalerei herb from Guizhou province
Objective To observe the analgesic and anticoagulative effects of alcoholic extract (ALE) and the aqueous extract (AQE) of rhizome of Begonia cavalerei herb from Guizhou province ,and to determine the acute toxicity of the extracts .Methods The indexes were tested as follows :writhes of abdominal cavity on mice caused by ip of acetic acid ,the incubation of pain induced by heated plate stimulation in mice ,bleeding time (BT) by cutting the mouse s tail and the maximal tolerance dose (MTD) .Results ALE could obviously decrease the numbers of writhe and prolong the incubation of pain of mice .ALE could obviously shorten BT of mice .MTD of AQE for mice was 7 .175 g ? Kg and that of ALE was 3 .865 g ? Kg by ig three times in 12 h (be equal to 3X50 g · kg-1 of dried herbs in 12 h) .Conclusion The pharmacological basis of ALE of rhizome of Begonia cavalerei herb on analgesia and anticoagulation are proved .The acute toxicity of ALE and AQE of rhizome of Be gonia cavalerei herb is slight.
