Efficacy of diazepam on preventing the recurrence of febrile convulsion in children
Objective To explore the preventive efficacy of diazepam on the recurrence of febrile convulsion and its influences on serum trace elements and myocardial enzymes. Methods A total of 100 children with recurrent febrile convulsion were enrolled as the research objects.According to random number table method, they were divided into observation group and control group,50 cases in each group. The control group was given routine treatment, while the observation group was additionally given diazepam. The clinical curative effect, serum trace elements(calcium and iron),myocardial enzymes[aspartate aminotransferase(AST),creatine kinase-MB(CK-MB),and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)],adverse reactions and disease recurrence were compared between the 2 groups. Results After 30 minutes and 1 hour treatment, the temperature in observation group was lower than that in control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the levels of serum calcium and iron in observation group were higher than those in control group(P<0.05),the levels of AST,CK-MB and LDH were lower than those in control group(P<0.05),and the recurrence rate of fever and convulsion was lower than that in control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in adverse reactions between the 2 groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Diazepam can effectively prevent the recurrence of febrile convulsion in children, which is beneficial to maintain the normal levels of serum calcium and iron, reduce myocardial damage, with good safety.
