Effect of fresh herbs on unstable angina pectoris and influence on cytokine levels
Objective To investigate the differences of therapeutic effect between the fresh herbs and Chinese decoction pieces in the treatment of unstable angina pectoris(UAP)of the Qi deficiency and blood stasis type. Methods Patients with UAP were randomly divided into control group,Chinese decoction pieces group and fresh herbs group, with 36 cases in each group.During the study, the existing western medical treatment was maintained in the all groups. The control group was not given Chinese medicine treatment. The Chinese decoction pieces group was treated with Taohong Siwu Decoction and Simiao Yong'an Decoction, while the fresh herbs group was treated with rehmannia and honeysuckle for 4 weeks. The number of angina pectoris, duration of angina pectoris, nitroglycerin consumption, inflammatory factors Interleukin-6(IL-6)and tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNF-α),blood lipid index and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome score were compared. Results The number of angina pectoris, duration of angina pectoris, nitroglycerin consumption,TNF-α and IL-6 levels were significantly better in the fresh herb group than in the decoction pieces group(P<0.05).In terms of TCM symptoms, the fresh herb group showed a more significant decrease than the decoction pieces group(P<0.05).In terms of lipid indexes, only cholesterol(TC)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)decreased in the fresh herb group and the decoction pieces group. The total effective rate of 4 weeks of treatment was 76.5%in decoction pieces group and 80.0%in fresh herb group with no significant difference between the 2 groups(P>0.05),but the effective rate was 48.6%in the fresh herb group compared with 17.6%in the decoction pieces group(P<0.05).Conclusion Chinese medicine can significantly improve the angina pectoris in UAP patients and the clinical effects can be improved after adjusting some of the decoction pieces to fresh herbs.
