Zhong Rong's Comment on the Poetry of Yan Yanzhi and Bao Zhao in Shi Pin
Shi Pin holds that Yan Yanzhi prefers allusions in his poems, which is basically recognized by later generations, while Zhong Rong dislikes allusions to be frequently used.Nonetheless,he still lists Yan Yanzhi in the middle for he firmly believes that Yan is a model of elegance. However,Zhong Rong criticizes Bao Zhao's poems for using rare vocabulary to pursue the realistic scenery. This comment generates dispute. To clarify its underlying meaning,it is necessary to combine the interpretations from works such as Shi Pin and Wenxin Dia-olong.Zhong Rong also had his own considerations when listing Bao Zhao in the middle.
