Research on the key points for the planning and design of low-traffic volume urban rail transit systems
As a crucial segment of China's urban rail transit system,low-traffic volume urban rail transit has garnered considerable attention from governmental bodies across all levels, driven by the national"carbon peaking and carbon neutrality"strategy and bolstered by capital market support. In pursuit of high-quality development in this sector amid the new era, this article undertakes a comprehensive examination of the development process of China's low-traffic volume urban rail transit systems.By scrutinizing the challenges encountered by existing operational lines,it identifies three main functions of low-traffic volume urban rail transit systems, namely, forming the backbone line of small-and medium-sized cities or new urban areas within major cities, extending supplementary lines for high-traffic volume urban rail transit systems in major cities, and acting as special functional lines.By leveraging typical transit lines in China as reference points, this article extracts and analyzes the factors contributing to the success or failure of line operations, and proposes key points for the planning and design of lines with different functions, encompassing network coordination, channel layout, transfer connectivity, and landscape shaping. This endeavor aims to furnish insights and case studies to inform the planning and design processes of low-traffic urban rail transit systems.
