The Chinese Economy in the Digital Era:Opportunities,Challenges, and Strategies
In the digital era,the Chinese economy is encountering unprecedented opportunities and challenges. The powerful productive force of digital technology has not only fostered the digital industry, injecting new momentum into economic growth, but has also played an extremely important role in creating job opportunities, building infrastructure, stimulating independent innovation, and promoting market connectivity.Beyond the digital industry itself, the digital transformation of traditional sectors has become a key force in driving economic development.Furthermore, the digital economy not only aids in advancing profound changes in the economic system but also effectively solves the"information dilemma"in governance, thereby promoting the modernization of the national governance system and capabilities. However,at the same time,we must be vigilant about the significant challenges the digital economy might pose to society. The application of digital technology faces"four major divides":geographical gaps, demographic gaps, industry gaps, and institutional gaps.Under the bias of digital technology and the magnification of network effects, these gaps may lead to"four major polarizations":polarization of corporate profits, employment structure, income distribution, and supply-demand matching.Facing these severe challenges,China urgently needs to construct two core strategies for response:one is to bridge the gaps through institutional safeguards, and the other is to prevent polarization through the perfection of social security.
