Antitrust Regulation in the Digital Platform Economy:Status,Challenges and Prospects
The significance of the digital economy in economic development has made antitrust regulation of digital platforms an important issue in the governance of the new economic form.This paper first examines the three main characteristics of the digital platform economy in network effects,marginal costs,and economies of scale,and analyzes the phenomenon that the market structure of platform enterprises naturally presents monopolistic characteristics and inevitably forms an oligopolistic market.From an international comparative perspective,we review and discuss the latest developments and differences in antitrust regulation of digital platforms in the United States,Europe,and China.After summarizing the regulatory goals and case framework of antitrust in the platform economy,we discuss the main challenges of digital platforms to antitrust;finally,we propose professional perspectives for adjustment and optimization suggestions.This paper aims to provide academic references for constructing and maintaining the"unchanging"essence of a fair competitive market environment under the new"changes"of antitrust in the digital platform economy.
