Perception of the status of business owners and long-term pollution control of private enterprises
Status perception reflects the social psychology of business owners and is a"soft grip"that affects the governance level of private enterprises. The shift from the end treatment of paying pollution control fees to the front-end treatment of purchasing pollution control equipment, green innovation and process transformation is the embodiment of the establishment of a long-term pollution control mechanism by private enterprises. This paper empirically tests the impact of status perception on long-term pollution control of private enterprises, and gives the explanation of social psychological mechanism:(1)The higher the status perception, the higher the enterprise's front-end pollution control investment, but has no significant impact on the end-pollution control investment;(2)The economic status perception of representational competence motivation has a significant positive effect on both front-end and end-management input;(3)Social status perception, which represents altruistic motivation(or prosocial motivation),can only increase front-end pollution control input;(4)Political status perception, which represents prestige motivation, has no significant impact on front-end and end-stage pollution control, but significantly reduces environmental violations;(5)Status perception will also improve business confidence and expectations of business owners and optimize corporate pollution control. In addition, when the formal pollution control system is insufficient, the role of status perception is prominent, and the two show a substitute relationship. The long-term pollution control effect of status perception depends on the performance strength of private enterprises. From the perspective of improving the pollution control of private enterprises, the research conclusion provides the cognition of the social value of affirming the status of private entrepreneurs, and has beneficial policy enlightenment.
