The chivalric ideal is a moral system which medieval knights aimed to achieve. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the chivalric ideal is identified as the pentangle and Sir Gawain is the representation of this chivalric ideal. However, this poem chal⁃lenges the chivalric ideal mainly by presenting a process of how Sir Gawain is challenged and transformed in the quest.Additionally, the chivalric ideal is deconstructed because the internal contradiction of it is exposed.
