In modem electric power systems,the effectiveness of reactive power management is crucial for maintaining the stability and efficiency of the power grid.By exploring the application of reactive power compensation technologies in electric power automation and how these technologies can optimise power quality,reduce energy losses,and improve the economy and reliability of the system.An overview of the basic types of reactive power compensation technologies,including static reactive generators(SVGs),capacitor banks and synchronous compensators,is first provided,highlighting their unique advantages in adapting to grid demands and improving transmission efficiency.This is followed by an in-depth discussion of advanced developments in reactive power compensation technologies,such as intelligent reactive power compensation,adaptive control strategies,and the application of novel materials and equipment,highlighting the significant contribution of these technologies in improving the efficiency and flexibility of power systems.In addition,the practical applications of reactive power compensation technologies for smart grid integration,improving power quality,reducing energy losses and improving system stability are discussed.Finally,an outlook on the future development of reactive power compensation technology is given,pointing out that technology integration and intelligent application will be the key factors to promote the development of the field of electric power automation,and it is expected that reactive power compensation technology will play a more significant role in building a more efficient,reliable and sustainable power system.
