By means of the questionnaires, this study investigates the relationship between volunteering behavior,inten-tional self-regulation,and mental health among junior high and senior high school students. The findings indicate that volunteer-ing behavior positively predicts mental health, with intentional self-regulation mediating this relationship. In the initial stage of the model, only the self-regulation ability of high school students significantly improves with increased volunteering. In the later stage, intentional self-regulation positively predicts mental health for both junior high and high school students, but the improve-ment in mental health is more pronounced for high school students with an increase in their intentional self-regulation.Overall,this study reveals the mechanism through which volunteering behavior influences mental health in adolescents and provides evi-dence supporting the theory of positive youth development.
