Taking the ordinary national and provincial highways in Xuzhou,Taicang and Changzhou of Jiangsu Province as the re-search object,based on field research,the research analyzes the current situation of traffic safety from four perspectives:road geom-etry conditions,traffic facilities,pavement conditions and traffic environment.According to the current situation of traffic safety and the characteristics of ordinary national and provincial highways in Jiangsu Province,clear and reasonable assessment indexes with low practical difficulty are proposed to form a new highway traffic safety risk assessment index system.Based on the risk assessment principle,a traffic safety risk assessment model is constructed.The validity of the model is verified by calculating the model results of 50 highway assessment sections,and the highway traffic safety risk level is divided into 5 levels.
