An Empirical Study on the Contribution of Higher Education to Common Prosperity in Northeast China
Common prosperity is an important aspect of meeting the people's aspirations for a better life.The revitalization of higher education is a key factor related to economic and social devel-opment.This article takes the Northeast region as the research object,selects data from 36 cities in Heilongjiang,Jilin,and Liaoning provinces from 2012 to 2021 for a total of ten years,constructs a common prosperity index based on the dimensions of"prosperity"and"common",and empirically analyzes the impact of higher education in Northeast China on achieving common prosperity through the construction of the SYS-GMM model.The results show that from the perspective of common pros-perity,the revitalization of higher education in the Northeast region has a significant positive impact on promoting the realization of common prosperity.With other variables controlled,for every 1 unit increase in the development level of higher education in the three provinces,the common prosperity index increases by 1.452 units.The development of higher education in Northeast China not only has a direct effect on promoting individual income growth(the"prosperity"effect),but also has an indi-rect effect on narrowing income inequality(the"common"effect),which is an important way to help achieve common prosperity.The industrial structure in the three provinces plays a significant posi-tive regulatory effect in the process of higher education helping to achieve common prosperity,in oth-er words,promoting the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure will be beneficial for high-er education in the three provinces to help achieve common prosperity.Based on the above research results,this article proposes the following three suggestions:we need to fully strengthen the construc-tion of a strong province in higher education,formulate and implement an integrated development and integration strategy;we should improve the admission ratio of higher education in rural areas of Northeast China,and promote the service of educational achievements to local communities and the general public;guided by the"Four Orientations",we should promote the upgrading of industrial structure,strengthen the transformation of scientific research achievements,and establish a collabor-ative mechanism between industry and education.
