Challenges and Solutions in Constructing the President Team in Chinese Private Undergraduate Colleges—A Perspective on University Governance Modernization
The effectiveness of the president team in private undergraduate colleges directly im-pacts their ability to adapt to higher education reforms and achieve their developmental goals.How-ever,the instability of the president team in China's private undergraduate colleges is problematic, and some of the presidents are not qualified for the role.Additionally, the pros and cons of having an older president team are pronounced. The construction of the president team in private undergradu-ate colleges faces two prominent dilemmas:unclear role expectations and a mismatch between the president's authority and responsibilities. These difficulties impede the president's ability to effec-tively manage the schools, resulting in decision-making challenges, low execution efficiency, frequent conflicts within the organization, and delays in achieving governance modernization in private under-graduate colleges.Addressing these issues in the construction of the president team in private under-graduate colleges can be approached in four ways:accelerating the implementation of non-classifica-tion policies, supporting presidents in developing their educational roles, implementing the matching of power and responsibilities, strengthening the governance system of private undergraduate colleges and universities, enhancing the president's governance capabilities, and establishing a cooperation network among presidents of private undergraduate colleges and universities to foster collaboration.
