The Experience and Inspiration of 100 Party Secretaries and Presidents of Universities in Running and Managing Schools
Over the past 40 years since the reform and opening up,in the leapfrog development process of higher education in China,nearly a hundred Party secretaries and presidents have accu-mulated rich experience in the practice of running and governing universities,which is mainly con-centrated in the following aspects:closely focusing on the national needs and establishing a scientific orientation for running schools;exploring and forming a talent cultivation model with Chinese charac-teristics;advocating scientific research that combines free exploration with social responsibility;giving full play to the social service functions of universities such as think tanks,transformation of scientific and technological achievements,and meeting the needs of industries;consciously taking on the new function of cultural innovation in universities;and actively playing an important role of uni-versities in international exchanges and cooperation.These experiences in running and governing universities have important implications for comprehensively improving the modernization level of the governance system and governance capacity of higher education in the new era and building a leading country in higher education.
