Ronald Barnett is a core figure in the field of higher education research,who critically explores and analyzes higher education based on education,social,political,and cultural backgrounds.Barnett explores various historical stages such as Greece and the Middle Ages in Europe from the perspective of conceptual ar-chaeology,examining the higher education concepts of famous educators of the same era.He believes that the essence of higher education is to cultivate students'critical self reflection,promote their individual develop-ment.He pointed out that higher education are faced with dual weakening of epistemology and sociological.Based on the exploration of the four key concepts of higher education:culture,rationality,research,and aca-demic freedom,Barnett proposed a strategy to rebuild free higher education,clarifying the standards that the higher education process needs to meet.Facing the"super complexity"and"uncertainty"of the world,the concept of"ecological university"is proposed.Barnett's exposition on higher education laid the theoretical foundation for the philosophy of higher education,and has important value for the construction of the theoreti-cal system of higher education disciplines and the development of higher education practice.
