Knowledge, attitudes and behaviours and its influencing factor of ICU nurses in prevention of refeeding syndrome
Objective To investigate the current knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of ICU nurses towards the prevention of refeeding syndrome(RFS),and analyse the related factors, therefore to provide a reference for clinical teaching and training. Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted using convenience sampling and a self-developed questionnaire on the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of ICU nurses and obstructive factor and knowledge demand regarding the prevention of RFS.The survey was conducted among the ICU nurses from 5 Grade IIIA general hospitals and 2 Grade IIA general hospitals in Shanghai,China. Results A total of 366 ICU nurses were surveyed. The total score, the score of knowledge, attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavioural control and behavioural intention in concern with the RFS prevention were(133.73±20.55),(35.79±9.04),(37.44±6.20),(12.07±2.27),(17.82±4.00)and(30.61±6.09),respectively,where the total score was at middle level.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the grade of hospital, speciality of ICU and menber of nutrition group,RFS training, freguency of obtaining knowledge from academic journal were the influencing factors to the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours of ICU nurses towards the RFS prevention(all P<0.05).Conclusions Nurses from Grade IIIA hospitals, comprehensive ICUs and those who have received RFS-related trainings and been menber of nutrition group have higher levels in knowledge, attitudes and behaviours towards the prevention of RFS.Therefore, nursing managers should pay attentions to the training of ICU nurses, strengthen the knowledge and behaviours towards the prevention of RFS,hence to improve the ICU management quality.
