Intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis(ICAS)is one of the leading causes of ischemic stroke worldwide.Patients with ICAS possess a high risk of stroke recurrence.Endovascular treatment is employed to manage ICAS patients who have a high likelihood of recurrent stroke despite undergoing the best medical therapy.Nevertheless, published trials fail to demonstrate the superiority of interventional therapy over best medical therapy in ICAS patients. The treatment options for ICAS are still under debate. This commentary focuses on devices and strategies, published clinical trials, and applicable populations regarding interventional therapy for ICAS,and aims to summarize the progress in this research hotspot.
